I’m learning the power in my small yes.
God Nudges are sometimes so gentle we brush them aside. But I’m finding that the more I give my small yes to His gentle whispers, the more I see Him doing awe-inspiring things in my life and in the lives of people around me. When we say yes to Him, no matter how small that yes is, it gives Him room to set things up for divine interruptions, for setting up a sequence of events – for someone to meet Jesus. I’ll show you what I mean.
My Small (Impulsive) Yes
Last night while I was cooking dinner I had this impulse to invite a local friend over. She’s a teacher, and I knew she’d be exhausted on a Friday night and I thought I could give her a break from having to cook dinner. So on a “whim” I texted her and told her pop over for dinner when she was done grading papers, and that there was zero pressure to hang out. She could come eat, and then go collapse at home if she wished. So Jessica came for dinner. But then she stayed.
Why I Was Invited to Give My Small Yes
And then I got a frantic call from a long-distance friend. A friend who desperately needs Jesus. A friend who has been running from Him for a very very long time. And yesterday she had a terrifying encounter that shook her to the core, and she trusted me enough to tell me what was going on, and ask me to pray for her and her family. I quickly alerted Jessica that this phone call couldn’t wait, gave her the quick version of what was going on, and she started praying – for my friend – and for ME.
Chain Reaction to My Small Yes
And I suddenly realized God had done His God-thing again. I’ve been fighting brain-fog SO badly this week. Having a conversation is hard, because I will suddenly just lose the conversation, or lose the next word I’m trying to say. It’s incredibly frustrating. BUT. When the brain fog started to hit while I was on the phone, Jessica was praying fervently (but silently) right beside me, and just as fast as the next word would disappear, it would return to me.
I can’t explain it any better than that. It was definitely God. He had Jessica present to pray for ME, while I was praying for and talking to “A”. So that His purposes could be accomplished. The chain reaction, and the realization of how many things had been set in motion for me to be available for “A” last night was…. awe-inspiring.
I said yes to spontaneously inviting Jessica to dinner. And that small yes was a contributing factor in making space for someone to meet Jesus.
Small Yes – Eternal Possibilities
Making space for someone to meet Jesus doesn’t always mean introducing someone to Jesus. Sometimes it means reminding them of what they already know. Sometimes it means praying His peace and comfort and deliverance into their life. Sometimes it means making a meal for them. Or giving a hug. Or making a phone call. Or keeping their baby so they can participate in a church service without a million small distractions.
Those things aren’t necessarily earth-shattering. In fact, they’re generally very small things. A slight deviation from my scheduled day. A gift of a couple hours. A moment. A small yes. But the results can be eternal.
For me.
For them.
Amazing Things
I’m going to continue saying YES to those tiny nudges from God. Amazing things happen when I do.
